Online Ontario High School (OSSD) for International Students: 2026 Education Guide

What online OSSD is
The Ontario Secondary School Diploma is an academic credential. Online delivery can allow students to complete eligible Ontario high-school courses without relocating to Canada for every course. The school, course approvals, credit rules and graduation requirements must be checked directly with the education provider.
Current OSSD graduation requirements
Ontario currently requires 30 credits plus the provincial literacy requirement, at least 2 online-learning credits and 40 hours of community involvement. Students who started Grade 9 in 2023 or earlier generally need 18 compulsory and 12 optional credits; students who started Grade 9 in 2024 or later generally need 17 compulsory and 13 optional credits, with the provincial financial-literacy graduation requirement applying under the current cohort rules. Verify the requirements for the student’s Grade 9 entry year with the Ontario Ministry of Education.
Online study should be chosen because it fits the student’s academic plan, not because it is described as a way to bypass immigration rules.
Online study is not a visa shortcut
Studying online from outside Canada and physically studying in Canada are different situations. If a student later plans to enter Canada to study in person, the applicable admission, study permit and entry requirements must be reviewed at that time.
