1. Preparation

English Language Proficiency:

You need the minimum scores on the standardized test of English which is either IELTS or TOEFL or any of the exams acceptable in Canada. Depending on the institution or province, this might be a precondition for admission. Without passing the language test (for English) and without a study permit which includes these scores, your application for admission at any Canadian institution will not be considered. Apart from meeting the admission requirement of the selected institution, high proficiency in English will ensure your high grades and full integration with Canadians.

You have also thought about the reasons why some people say Canada is the best place to study. There are some honest reasons why Canada is a great place to study. In this article, I will show you the reasons why Canada can be a great place to study. Canada offers a high standard of education, affordable tuition fees, a safe and friendly environment, and the opportunity to work and apply for a residency permit after the course. In the next few paragraphs, I will compare Canada and other countries in terms of student-friendly options like the United States of America (USA). Canada has been more supportive in providing an easy pathway from education to permanent residency.

2. Admission Application

Choosing the Right Credentials and Institution:

If you want to study in Canada. Whether you choose which one to get admission into between a college or a university in Canada, it depends on what your career objectives are and what you have studied before. In Canada, colleges offer programs that provide practical, career-oriented academic and technical programs leading to certificates, diplomas advanced diplomas, 1-year graduate certificates.

The universities offer more academic courses and programs with a focus on research; bachelor's, master's, and Ph.D. degrees.

Application Essentials:

A strong Statement of Purpose (SOP) – a structured and written essay that provides a summary of your academic, professional, and other job experience, and presents your reasons and goals for seeking this particular graduate program – as well as a comprehensive CV and good references are almost a must-have for an application to an elite program in the US.

3. Study Permit

Study Plan and Financial Requirements:

Come up with a convincing study plan: This is one of the critical pieces that will make your study permit application thrive. Start your study plan by outlining your educational focus, the rationale behind choosing Canada, and your intended career plans after graduation.

Effective January 01, 2024, a study permit requires minimum funds to show that you can pay for tuition for the first year of studies in a DLI, and CAD 20,635 for living expenses. If you are married you need an additional CAD 4,000 for the spouse (and CAD 4,000 more for each accompanying child). Round-trip flight costs are about CAD 2,000 per person.

Application Process:

Understand application forms and present all documents as valid and legal, without any misrepresentation and false and incorrect information. It will lead to a refusal of your application for a study permit. It is mandatory to undergo mandatory medical tests and biometrics if prescribed. Candidates applying for study in Quebec will have to provide additional proof like Certificat d’Acceptation du Québec (CAQ).

Financial Plan Cover Letter:

Include a financial plan cover letter explaining how you will fund your studies and living expenses. This document helps demonstrate your financial stability and commitment to your studies in Canada.

GCK vs. New Portal:

There is no difference in the outcome of using the Government of Canada’s Key (GCK) vs. the new portal, although the new portal allows for smaller file sizes. Choose the portal that you find more user-friendly.

Handling Refusals:

If your study permit application is refused, you can request reconsideration or resubmit your application after addressing the concerns raised by the visa officer. In some cases, a judicial review through a lawyer may be necessary.

Post-Approval Actions:

Once approved, prepare for your move to Canada. Make sure to comply with the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) requirements upon arrival.

4. Starting and Finishing the Program on Time

Maintaining Study Permit Status:

Stick to your study plan and do not let your studies lapse for more than 150 days (else your permit could be canceled). Continuous enrolment in an educational program is important at all times.

Renewals:

Renew your study permit and student visa at least one month before they expire. A valid study permit does not guarantee your re-entry to Canada if your student visa has expired.

Student Work Permit:

Know your employer’s and the government’s terms and conditions for your student work permit. Your employer should allow you no more than 20 hours a week during semesters, and you can work full time during breaks – although from September 2024 you’ll have permission to work up to 24 hours a week. There are some special measures in place just now too: you can work full-time until 30 April 2024.

5. Becoming a Canadian Permanent Resident with Education Immigration to Canada

Temporary Work Permit:

Get a study permit work allowance: Get a temporary work permit right after graduation to keep working in Canada while you are waiting for your Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) document.

PGWP Requirements:

Apply for the PGWP as soon as you graduate and within 180 days of completing your studies; make sure your passport is valid; and ask for your graduation certificates and transcripts.

Preparing for Permanent Residency:

Prepare and give various assessments such as IELSTS General, CELPIP, PTE core, Federal Express Entry Program, Canadian Experience Class (CEC), Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), Quebec Experience Program (PEQ), National Occupational Classification (NOC) code 0, NF Category A, NF Category B, Provincial Nominate Program(PNP), Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Global Talent Stream, Interim Pathway for Caregivers, Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP). Employment Verification Letter, Reference Letter for Job Application, Human Resource Management.

Path to Citizenship:
